FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I thought the Square Jellyfish mount was going to be all metal, but it appears it is only the portion that will be mounted to your tripod. I supposed this make sense as i don’t think it would make sense to have metal hitting your metal mobile device.

I do appreciate it’s small form factor. This allows for easy transport of the tripod mount. I can easily fit the mobile phone version tripod mount in my pocket without issue. The tablet version of the square jellyfish tripod mount is only a slight larger.

The build quality looks good enough to trust my iPad and iPhone on light stands.

AFTER FIRST USE

Let’s just say that I will never buy another tablet or iPhone holder again. I know the square jellyfish tripod mount is just that a tripod mount. Although, I use the tripod mount with my other numerous photography gear such as a ballhead. This combination allows easy configuration to my multiple setups as detailed below.

SETUP 1: (Purpose = Portable iPad stand used for photoshoots, leisure reading in bed and many more. This is my most used setup.)

Square Jellyfish metal Tablet tripod mount + Joby ballhead + Manfrotto 122B + Manfrotto 003MF mini backlite stand with female attachment

SETUP 2: (Purpose = iPad photoshoot review station used to review product photography wireless tethered images.)

Square Jellyfish metal Tablet tripod mount + Joby ballhead + Manfrotto 035 Super Clamp + Manfrotto Autopoles

SETUP 3: (Purpose = iPhone mount to camera for remote camera triggering)

Square Jellyfish metal mobile phone tripod mount + Joby Clamp + hotshoe adapter

A FEW OF THE FEATURES I FOUND MOST USEFUL FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS: (view a full listing at the manufacturer website

  • Metal tripod mount section
  • Small form factor

CONCLUSION:

If the use of a table or iPhone is included in your photography workflow, then the Square Jellyfish metal tripod is an accessory you need to have in your camera bag. You’ll need more than one if you are like me and hate to break things down. I like to have a dedicated tripod mount to keep in my camera bag and another mount to keep attached for Setup #1.
