The PocketWizard Flex TT5’s may look like a big square plastic block but since it lays horizontal opposed to vertically like other PocketWizards (Plus I’s, II’s, III’s and the X’s the size of the PocketWizard Flex TT5’s doesn’t seem too bad.

The next item I notice is the lack of an LCD screen and/or physical radio channel switcher that I am accustomed to from my PocketWizard Plus IIs and PocketWizard Plus IIIs. The lack of these features at first made me feel a little uneasy, as I won’t be able to change the radio channels and other settings without the use of a computer. Although, my fears were extinguished as soon as I setup the PocketWizard Flex TT5 and realized that you have two configuration options to pre-program two different radio channels and settings. Therefore, if you happen to come across another photographer using the same radio channel you’d simply switch from C1 to C2. Problem solved and my fears no longer present.

Once you go Flex you never go back. At least for flashes or strobes that allow for remote flash power output settings.

I used the PocketWizard Flex TT5 for a wedding and wow it felt good not having to walk to the light and make physical power setting updates. I was able to simply from my camera position increase or decrease the flash power output at a distance. There are two ways you could accomplish this task. First you could user your flash attached to the PocketWizard Flex TT5 on camera to control the output using the flash commander function or you could use the PocketWizard AC3 is a small attachement to place on the hotshoe of the PocketWizard Flex TT5 which allows you to control 3 zones (A, B, C).

With the ability to make flash power updates without moving position allows for more captured moments along with creative lighting . Also you can even avoid hiring a lighting assistant for your wedding and or photo shoots as you could now make the necessary lighting adjustments without any assistance.

As you can tell, the ability to change flash power settings on camera is the biggest selling point to me for the PocketWizard Flex TT5s. I am in LOVE.
