When you think of an iPhone protective waterproof case you think big and bulky. Well the Optrix PhotoProX was surely not the big bulky case I was expecting. It’s actually a good size but still allows significant protection of your iPhone 5. The lenses had it’s own “lens case”with foam inserts for each lens. Installing the lenses was very easy.

This might not sound very PG but first use was in the shower. No, I wasn’t taking any pictures. I merely used the Optrix PhotoProX as a protective device from the water so that I could watch Creativelive video feeds and youtube videos. Yes, it doesn’t matter where I am. I am always learning.

Well the iPhone 5 survived and is still in working condition so that is a good sign. During operation, I did notice that the sensitivity around the edges of the iPhone screen were not that great as it seems it might be due to the protector over the screen is not pressing tightly against the iphone screen.

The actual first use of the lenses were to initially take product shots of my Nikon SB900 flash that I planned to sell on ebay which I decided not to sell after all.

Did i mention the quality of the images produced is just amazing! Check out the the product shots using the Telephoto and Macro lens.

I can safely say that I don’t need to use my Nikon J1 for product shots anymore. As long as I have good constant lighting like the ikan 312 Bs that I used for these examples, I should be good.

The telephoto lens was used for a normal straight on product shot as you can see below. You will notice there is a slight distortion that is common with these types of lenses for the iPhone not just limited to the Optrix PhotoProX. This is very minor as you can easily correct this distortion in post.

The macro lens was used to highlight the different areas of the flash to show the current state of the flash. As you can see the macro lens was pretty amazing. The amount of detail and clarity was wow. I am curious to see how this lens would compare to a dslr with a macro shooting a ring as a detail shot for a wedding. Hmm.. I might have to give it a try and let you guys know.
