As all of you photographers know, the days of being only a photographer has long past with the introduction of video built into today’s modern DSLRS. I must say that I am a happy adapter into this new service offering of Cinema at http://www.LawrenceAtienza.com.

With the most recent boom in drones in the world of video for wedding and event videographers, the addition of a drone to your arsenal is almost a near necessity. Fortunately, there are drone manufacturers in the market that make the purchase of a drone a reality .

How about the almost majority of drone consumers in the market where it is not only seen as a professional tool for weddings and corporate videos but also for everyday capture of moments?
Well, I was fortunate enough to get a peek into what I feel is a product to fit that void of an easy to use multi-purpose casual and professional drone.

What you will see in the media demo video below is an ingenious product named “lily” which is an autonomous flying camera.  Yes, autonomous. With just a click of a button on the small circular tracker that you carry with you at all times, you are able to select moves such as a 360 shot or a flyaway shot to name a few to enrich your cinema or home video.

While the prototype is not as perfect as their promo video, the lily prototype  is very promising on the potential of lily upon its slated  release in February 2016.

CHECK OUT THE MEDIA DEMO OF THE LILY PROTOTYPE I’VE FILMED BELOW:

As you don’t really see from the demo video I’ve captured, the lily prototype currently requires the use of a larger in form factor router looking like tracker opposed to the small circular tracker in their promo and an iPhone app to execute shots like the 360  etc. but its very exciting to see it’s potential.

When I get my hands on the lily upon release, I plan to use it for casual snowboarding runs on the weekends during the winter months and future interviews/coverage for photographySILO.  The lily would also be perfect for outdoor weddings held at a country club golf course or estate with an abundant lawn.

What makes lily amazing is that lack of flying skill required to perform cinematic shots like the 360 etc. The barriers to entry in terms of skill for drone flight is almost non-existent with the lily. Did i mention you can also record sound from the tracking device? Isn’t that amazing technology? You can check out the official press release found here to see it’s max potential.
