Step 1: Have the list of desired qualities in front of you to reference.

  • Type of model :
    • (MODEL TYPE: ALL AMERICAN LOOK)
    • (MODEL TYPE: MODEL OR PHOTOGRAPHER)
    • (MODEL TYPE: VOLUPTIOUS AND SEXY)
    • (MODEL TYPE: OPEN SPIRITED TO SHOOT SEMI-NUDE TO NUDE)

Step 2:  Sign up for a Model Mayhem account.

-       The site needs to approve your work before receiving an account so make sure you only submit your best work for review.

Step 3: Setup your profile page.

-       Once you are approved, then setup your profile to be as professional as possible. This will too affect the type of model willing to work with you. Remember perception is everything.

-       Use your best image as your profile picture.

-       Model Mayhem also prepared a great tutorial on how to create a profile here: http://www.modelmayhem.com/education/using-mm/308-how-to-fill-out-your-model-mayhem-profile

-

Step 4: Setup a Casting

-       Go to the Casting/Travel Tab

  • Follow the steps detailed on the screen for completion.

Step 5: Promote your casting to the Model Mayhem community

  • Make an announcement
    • Click on “Make an Announcement
      • Keep it short and compelling.
        • Example: “Be seen by hundreds or maybe thousands of people check out my casting”
      • Do a search for Model Mayhem models you’d like to work with based on your criteria.
        • Click on the “Browse” tab
          • Choose artist type and select model
          • Select Gender
          • For Display you want
            • Detailed listings (You want to know everything you can in the results page to prevent unnecessary clicks into the persons profile)
            • Last Activity  (You want to see models that are frequently on Model Mayhem so you know they will respond in a timely manner.)
  • Choose a location
    • Keep in mind that models are not likely to travel more than 25 miles for TFCD shoot unless your are a highly sought after photographer.
  • Click Advanced
    • Choose genres
      • Select all that apply to your shoot
    • Compensation
      • I recommend to select Any as there are some models that have paid assignments only as their preference that would work TFCD  if you are really good.
    • Experience
      • Select any as you can mold most newbie models to what you want.
    • Logged in within ___ days
      • Select 14 days (again you want only models that are active in model mayhem to ensure a timely reply to your request.
  • Click Search
    • Now go to the list and friend all the potential models.
      • I ask to friend them so that they can check out your work and see if you are worthy. So you know if they accept your friendship it is likely they’ll be willing to work with you.
      • Contact existing friends on Model mayhem
        • Send them a message with the concept breakdown on the body with a compelling subject line.
          • Example: “You would be great for my upcoming body paint advertorial shoot”
      • Once you get some bites on your casting make that initial contact. Make sure you are professional.

“Make sure you look out for my post on how to sell your concept to the talent”

About the Author

Lawrence
As a weekend photographer, I found myself with limited time and limited resources in terms of expanding my photographic ability due to my career. Like many weekend photography warriors, there are only 2 hours on the weekdays and maybe 8 hours or so total on the weekend to learn and grow. These time constraints is what motivated me into creating this online photography resource. I needed a photography hub where all the information I referred to is stored in one easy to navigate online location. I see this more of my online repository of photography information gathered through time. I am very proud of the success of my blog offering of "Photographer Interview Series". You will read in-depth interviews from the photography world's famous photographers. Names like David Tejada, Nick Onken, Michael Grecco and David Bean to name a few. The interview series has also expanded to include weekend photographers and now wedding photographers with the similar goal of learning from each other. My goal is to evolve this site to be the premier go to resource for photographer interviews and equipment reviews.
