Photography FAQ: Where should I buy my camera?

In this day of high taxes at least in California, it seems more and more people are going online for their Digital SLR needs. I can’t blame them with sales tax reaching 9.75%.  I am looking to buy the Nikon D700 and might really consider purchasing it online. Now that we are going in the direction of online, lets expand to which online vendors to consider.

Like many of you, I rely heavily on the reputation of the retailer. With that said, I first go to Calumet.com and then Samys.com. If these online retailers do not have what i am looking for, I visit B&H.

Now compare the prices. If the price is less than $20 dollars you should go for the more reputable online retailer to avoid any unforeseen issues with product condition upon delivery and or delayed shipment.

If the cost of the digital SLR online including shipping and handling is only a $50 savings, I would just purchase the digital SLR in a brick and mortar store. At least you can get instant gratification for the $50.

FYI: I purchased my Nikon D200 January 2007 at a Samys camera brick and mortar store.

About the Author

Lawrence
As a weekend photographer, I found myself with limited time and limited resources in terms of expanding my photographic ability due to my career. Like many weekend photography warriors, there are only 2 hours on the weekdays and maybe 8 hours or so total on the weekend to learn and grow. These time constraints is what motivated me into creating this online photography resource. I needed a photography hub where all the information I referred to is stored in one easy to navigate online location. I see this more of my online repository of photography information gathered through time. I am very proud of the success of my blog offering of "Photographer Interview Series". You will read in-depth interviews from the photography world's famous photographers. Names like David Tejada, Nick Onken, Michael Grecco and David Bean to name a few. The interview series has also expanded to include weekend photographers and now wedding photographers with the similar goal of learning from each other. My goal is to evolve this site to be the premier go to resource for photographer interviews and equipment reviews.
